Hinshaw Adds Business Transactions and Advisory Partner in Chicago

January 11, 2024

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that Megan Lopp Mathias has joined the firm’s Commercial Transactions practice as a partner in the Chicago office. With a focus on advising minority and women-owned companies and executives, Mathias brings significant experience with a broad scope of general corporate and legal matters, including transactions, employment, and commercial litigation.

"Megan has extensive experience assisting companies with strategic expansion and is highly regarded for her focus on client service and creative legal solutions," said Anthony Jacob, who leads Hinshaw’s Commercial Transactions practice. "With the depth and breadth of Megan’s practice, she complements our existing team very well."

With 20 years of experience, Mathias has advised companies across a broad scope of industry sectors on a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters, employment issues, operations, strategy, e-discovery, business transactions, business divorce, and tax issues. She often serves as external general counsel and chief operating officer for small companies. At Hinshaw, she will focus her practice on transactional and general corporate matters and litigation.

Mathias said that she was attracted to Hinshaw because of the firm’s widely recognized capabilities in various practices, including litigation, employment, and intellectual property. The firm's strong commitment to inclusion was also a significant factor in her decision to join the firm.

“Many of my clients have grown exponentially,” Mathias said. “Hinshaw offers them a deep bench of attorneys in key practice areas that will allow me to better serve all of their legal needs. The firm also values diversity, a focus that is very important to me and my existing clients. I’m thrilled to join this talented group of attorneys.”

Mathias previously managed her own firm and has also practiced at various firms in the Chicago area. She received a B.A. in marketing and a B.A. in international relations from Michigan State University and her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology.

In addition to her law practice, she previously ran for office to serve on Chicago's City Council. She is active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, is a founding member of the Force of Lawyers Against Sexual Harassment (FLASH), and is active with the Illinois State Bar Association. She is also a former Local School Council Chair for a Chicago Public School and has served on the Boards of the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago and Life-Span, organizations fighting domestic and sexual violence, and The Ross K. MacNeill Foundation.
